JMG’s Civil Engineering division has been responsible for some of the most significant physical infrastructure projects in Tasmanian including dams, roads, pipelines, bridges, towers and buildings.
The team works on projects across all sectors including marine, industrial, infrastructure, residential and commercial, but also offers specialist expertise in the following areas:
- subdivision infrastructure design and documentation
- highway design and development
- dams planning, design and construction supervision
- water sensitive urban design,
- reservoirs, water and sewerage treatment plants, pump stations design
- rail infrastructure and loading facilities
- bridge, tunnel and marine structure design
- waste management infrastructure such as Waste Transfer Stations and Recycling Facilities
- cyclepaths, walking tracks and boardwalks
- construction phase services including acting as Superintendent

Grant Atherton
Principal – Civil, Structural, Hydraulics
Grant heads the Construction and Industry division by overseeing technical quality throughout a multitude of simultaneous projects.
With over thirty years of experience in civil and structural engineering, Grant has industry leading skills which includes design, contract administration, project management and construction supervision. His expertise includes roads, bridges, railways, planning, reservoirs, pipelines, pump stations, water and waste water treatment, precast concrete, subdivisions, industrial and commercial works.
Significant projects Grant has worked on include the Abt Railway, Cambridge Park and the South East Irrigation Scheme.

Christopher Males
Principal – Civil Design Coordinator
Chris delivers engineering services for highways and residential, commercial and industrial subdivisions.
Chris’ civil engineering career began with the Tasmanian Government’s Department of Transport where he specialized in road design. With 25 years’ experience Chris is an expert in:
- Civil services design
- concept development
- detail design
- documentation and contract administration
Significant Civil engineering projects include: Kangaroo Bay Subdivision (Clarence, Tasmania), Risdon Prison Redevelopment (Clarence, Tasmania), Incat Tasmania Civil and Drainage works (Hobart, Tasmania) and Bellerive Oval redevelopment (Clarence, Tasmania).
