JMG worked as project managers for the task of installing new light towers at Bellerive Oval. JMG also prepared the feasibility/concept design, the design and construct specification for the lighting, the detailed design and documentation for the electrical upgrade, and construction phase services. Work erecting the towers started in October; testing is to be carried out in November; and the first trial game will be in early December, with the real test being the Australia – Pakistan international Twenty20 in February. Illumination levels will be up to 2000 lux average vertical on the pitch, and therefore geared for high-definition and slow-motion TV broadcasting – higher than many of the international grounds around the world, but comparable with the MCG and SCG. Access to the lights is via a ‘manrider’, a French-designed portable unit which winches itself up the side of the pole to the headframe access platforms – the only one in the country.
