Port Sorell Primary School
The Port Sorell Primary School represents the new face of education design in Tasmania. Recently opened in February 2013, this school caters for 350 school students from one of Tasmania’s fastest growing municipalities.
Innovative design techniques which enhance co-operation and integration for the staff, students and local communities have been incorporated into this facility.
JMG acted as sub-consultants to Artas Architects and were involved in all engineering disciplines as well as designing to achieve 5 star Green Star accreditation.
In particular, stormwater re-use for non-potable water resources were designed for toilet flushing and irrigation. Minimal irrigation is needed on the site, due to the blending in of the drought tolerant landscaping planting, as well as surface water being captured , re-used and ex-filtrated into the surrounding sub soil.
Even in 1:100 year stormwater events, minimal discharge to Council’s system is achieved.
Energy efficient lighting systems, PV solar array system, solar hot water, natural ventilation and other passive design concepts link in with the heating and ventilation system to provide a highly efficient building. In addition, a Building Management System (BMS) has been installed to monitor all energy and water use.
