JMG 60th Anniversary
JMG Engineers and Planners is 60 years old this year. The above timeline shows some milestones in the history of the company.
Over this period, JMG has remained in Tasmanian ownership and has grown to a business that employs over 60 staff, with offices in Hobart and Launceston.
Bushfire appeal
JMG Rotary Bushfire Relief Appeal GOAL SMASHED!
We are very proud to have raised over $4,000 dollars this week for the Rotary Bushfire Relief Appeal – blitzing our goal of $3k.

Further staff movements
Further changes to staff positions were made at the end of June 2019. Ray Berry, Chris Males and Nick Stolp became Principals at JMG, with Nick Allen and Tony Wise becoming Associates of the business. Congratulations to these people who have all made significant contributions to the JMG business.

Museum of Old and New Art
The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an internationally recognised art museum near Hobart. The museum houses over 1900 artistic works, ancient, modern and contemporary, from a private collection. The central themes of the museum are sex and death and has been described by its owner as ” a subversive adult Disneyland”.
MONA was built within the Moorilla Winery and is largely housed within the Berriedale Peninsula on which it stands. From the outside, it is a single story building that leads to a spiral staircase, which descends through three large display areas also used for public performances.
JMG has been very active with developments at MONA from the initial design and building of the museum to recent projects including –
- Spectra, the light beams in the foreground of the photo which were used with the Dark Mofo festival
- Pharos, the triangular extension to the building, access to which is through a light tunnel, also holds a restaurant and meeting area, as well as art works
- In the right of the photo is the exhibition built to the design approved by James Tyrell, an internationally recognised designer of light installations.
K & D Brickworks Subdivision
Client: Kemp and Denning Limited
Year: 2013 – current
JMG worked with Kemp and Denning Limited to develop a 114-lot residential subdivision of over 10 ha at the former K&D brickworks site in Lenah Valley.
JMG’s planners prepared the development application and have successfully obtained planning approval from Hobart City Council.
The subdivision incorporates Hobart City Council’s open space vision by linking the Lenah Valley Primary School with a new 1.4 ha of public open space (former quarry). Dedicated bike lanes and a path network will be used to connect the main open space to Giblin Street and though the site.
JMG designed infrastructure including stormwater, water, sewers and roads, and completed environmental assessments.
Engineering Excellence Awards 2016
The Sorell Irrigation Scheme was awarded a High Commendation in the Project Infrastructure category of the 2016 Tasmanian Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA).
The project was delivered by Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd with Hazell Bros. Group, JMG Engineers & Planners, and Cromarty.
JMG Engineers & Planners provided hydraulic modelling, transient analysis and design for the 3 pump stations, Rekuna Dam, numerous property outlets, and around 84 km of irrigation pipelines up to 630 mm diameter including the River Derwent crossing. The JMG team are pictured with the award certificate.
