Client: Royal Hobart Hospital
Year: 2010-2013
JMG teamed up with Vincent Chrisp Architects over 2010-2013 to deliver a $25 suite or works at the Royal Hobart Hospital which included an expanded ICU/HDU facility, an all-new Assessment and Planning Unit (APU) and a fully redeveloped Medical Imaging Department.
The Architectural solution on the constrained site involved a new infill building. This presented significant engineering challenges for JMG, not least of which was the need to ‘relocate’ the entire mechanical plant room to make way for new ICU beds. All works had to be delivered without downtime to existing ICU operations and in strict observance of hospital infection control procedures.
JMG’s engineers worked very closely with Vincent Crisp Architects and hospital personnel over a long period to ensure the ultimate success of the project.
The project won a Public Architecture Award at the 2013 AIA Awards.
