The Tasman Hotel

Client: Marriott Hotel

Year: 2018-2022

The Tasman Hotel is part of the Parliament Square redevelopment on the waterfront fringe of the Hobart CBD.

JMG’s initial role on the 152 room hotel involved a total redesign of the mechanical services to separate the Tasman from dependency on the central plant of the PSQ-1A Office building. This was an 11th hour change that required quick action and clear thinking on JMG’s part, as works had commenced and solutions had to be found quickly with numerous constraints, not least of which was working in a heritage listed building.

In addition to the Hotel rooms, the Tasman complex features a number of independently operating facilities such as the award winning Peppina restaurant, Mary Mary cocktail bar, meeting and function spaces, lounges and courtyard café.

Spatial solutions for plant and service routes within and through the heritage building were challenging, and flexibility of operation to suit the varied space functions was required.

JMG were able to fulfil these key criteria and design sensitive contemporary HVAC systems that either hide behind or blend into the building fabric, while successfully delivering conditions that observe contemporary expectations including air quality, ESD principles, and quiet operation befitting a luxury 5-star hotel.

JMG’s unique experience and skill sets in the smart control/hotel interface space, and working closely with Citta Property Group and Marriott Hotel, has enabled a high-end up to the minute smart control system that integrates control of HVAC, lighting, blinds, audio-visual, and interface to the hotel front desk to facilitate a personalised experience for each guest when they arrive.
